YOUR CAT OR DOG?
Prior to considering surrender of your cat or dog, you may wish to attempt to place it with trusted friends or family. Never abandon your pet in an empty home or apartment. Never abandon your pet on the side of the road, in the woods or at the door of a shelter. Abandonment is contrary to public policy and considered neglect under New Hampshire Statutes. Also be sure to check out our LINKS page (listed under MORE) on our website for pet friendly housing.
Surrenders are only considered from residents of the city of Franklin and the towns of Andover, Hill, and Northfield. If surrender to the Franklin Animal Shelter becomes a serious consideration, you must contact the Shelter during its business hours. An appointment will be arranged with the Shelter's manager and a review will be conducted to determine if the Shelter has the capacity and resources to successfully re-home your pet. The Shelter cannot and will not accept an animal that is not socialized or is feral. At the review, any documentation relative to your pet, such as veterinarian records and microchip information, should be made available. The information will be reviewed and a determination as to suitability of surrender will be made. The appropriate intake forms are available to the right. You may open, complete and print these documents prior to your intake interview.
The shelter receives surrenders on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM, Thursday, 1:00 PM - 7:00 PM, and Saturdays, 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Please call 603-934-4132 during those times PRIOR to bringing a surrender to the shelter.
If you are not a resident of the above listed city and towns and you are looking for a facility
